There is author’s understanding of the theoretical basis of the constitutional process provided in this article, through the prism of this basis the contemporary constitutional process in Ukraine is analyzed. The necessity of changing of the present Constitution of Ukraine through the actualization of the new stage of the constitutional process is examined. The distinctive features of the contemporary stage of constitutional process are analyzed; the questions of the formation and activity of the Constitutional Assembly are examined.
